I've had a very pleasant email from Andrea Thilo, one of the producers of Rhythm is it, about which I wrote here last week.
Rhythm's director, Thomas Grube, is making a second film with the Berlin Philharmonic and its conductor Simon Rattle. Right now the orchestra is on tour in Asia, and Grube and his crew are making a documentary about the trip with the working title "Trip to Asia - the Quest for Harmony". The film, which is expected to be released in autumn 2006 has the BBC among its co-producers, so we shall certainly see it in Britain at some point.
The film already has its own website (mostly in German), complete with a tour blog. The production diary includes photos taken by the director and audiofiles recorded by the sound designer Simon Stockhausen (yes he is...). The radio producer in me really appreciates the sound quality: beautifully recorded, and a miracle to hear it in such fantastic hi-fi down a phoneline which is little more than a piece of barbed wire.
The impressive production - and human - values of Rhythm is it augur well for Trip to Asia. The Rhythm website is terrific - worth a visit, even if you never see the film.
