My friend Trish and I (we've known each other since RTE days) were at the Irish Museum of Modern Art two Saturdays ago. Among the exhibitions was Alex Katz: New York, a collection of portraits of family and friends, set - mostly - against a New York backdrop. I was intrigued by this portrait - it turned out to be Edwin Denby. Silly, I know, but I had never imagined him like this. Compare the Katz portrait with Peter Hujar's photograph.
